Burton International Academy awarded grant funding for new “Elementary in Engineering” program

DSC03421Meemic Insurance Company helped to kick off a new engineering program at Burton International Academy this week thanks to an $850 donation to the school. Meemic representative Randy Cagwin presented a check to Dr. John Wilson, principal of Burton, and Kindergarten Teacher Demetria Hoskins on Wednesday, September 24.

The check was awarded to Wilson and Hoskins in response to a grant proposal submitted to Meemic, an insurance company that provides corporate support exclusively to members of the educational community, and will be used toward funding a new program titled, “Elementary in Engineering.”

This program will be offered to students in grades K-5 and aims to expose students to a variety of careers in the engineering field. The program involves students taking an engineering class as a supplement, such as STEM, to their regular science classes.
