A share of first place will be on the line Saturday at high noon when Cody challenges King in the Detroit Public School League Football Game of the Week at King High School.
Six teams enter week four of the regular season tied for the PSL lead with 2-0 league records. Three of the leaders – defending champion Cass Tech, King and Western – are unbeaten with 3-0 overall records. East English Village, Mumford and Cody are 2-1 overall.
The logjam at the top will start to clear up with Saturday’s Cody-King showdown at 12 noon.
All other PSL teams play Friday at 4 p.m., including Douglass (0-2 league, 0-3 overall) at Cass Tech; Denby (1-1, 2-1) vs. Western at East English Village High School; Central (0-2, 1-2) at Ford (1-1, 1-2); East English Village at Pershing (1-1, 2-1); CMA (0-2, 0-3) at Renaissance (1-1, 1-2); Mumford at DCP-Northwestern (0-2, 0-2); and Osborn (0-2, 0-3) at Southeastern (0-2, 0-3).
The Cody at King contest is the second of five PSL Games of the Week this season, unique in that the league can showcase its brand of football exclusively as the only high school game in town on a Saturday.
In the season’s first PSL Game of the Week last week, visiting Mumford held on to defeat Denby 14-8. In other games last week, visiting Pershing came from behind to beat Osborn 20-14 in overtime; host East English Village trounced Renaissance 47-0; Cass Tech shut out visiting Southeastern 48-0; visiting Cody walloped Central 40-6; host Ford routed CMA 34-6; King overwhelmed host DCP-Northwestern 61-20; and Western beat Douglass 14-6.
