FREE CONCERT: First-Ever Collaborative Presentation of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, Detroit Symphony Orchestra & Detroit Public Schools

On Friday, June 6, the DPS combined chorus will perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church for the Community Concert Series. The Concert is free!

The collaboration will present “Music Connections,” a unique community concert that extols the power of music of all genres to touch multiple generations and transform lives. The Presenting Sponsor is the DTE Energy Foundation.

Music Connections will explore connections between 18th Century Bach and Mozart to African-American Spirituals with contemporary arrangements for choirs. Also included is a composition of George Walker, a living African-American classical composer.

The conductor for this concert is Joseph Striplin, a product of Detroit Public Schools’ Cass Technical High School, who became the first African American regular member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He is accomplished both as a conductor and a violinist in the orchestra.

The Detroit Public Schools combined choirs from Cass Technical High, Cody High School, Detroit School of Arts and Renaissance High Schools will join the DSO in the concert.
