Held annually to honor top-performing seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, the Detroit Public Schools Office of Guidance and Counseling hosted the 30th Annual Excellence Awards recognition event on Wednesday, May 14, with individual ceremonies at participating high schools.
This year’s event theme was the DPS Day of Excellence as 10 schools hosted individual events honoring 274 seniors who rank in the top three percent of the district’s graduating class.
All DPS high schools participated in the DPS Day of Excellence. However, 10 schools hosted Excellence Awards Ceremonies at the following locations:
Cass Technical High School

Emergency Manager Jack Martin attended the Cass Technical High School ceremony at International Market Place.
Karen Ridgeway, Superintendent of Academics, attended ceremonies at Western International High School, Detroit International Academy for Young Women, East English Village Preparatory Academy, and Detroit School of Arts for the Detroit Rising Self-Governing Schools. Kevin Smith, Chief of Staff to the Emergency Manager, visited Burton Manor for the Renaissance High School ceremony. Lamont Satchel, Chief Innovation Officer, visited DSA for the self-governing schools ceremony.
