Rain and the threat of lightning forced the postponement of the Detroit Public School League Division 1 girls’ tennis championship Monday and also had a delay effect on the PSL girls’ softball semifinals.

The girls’ league tennis championships have been rescheduled for next week with the Division 1 meet to be contested Monday, May 19 and the Division 2 meet on Tuesday May 20, both beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Barcus Tennis Center.

In a Division 1 girls’ softball semifinal, Cass Tech defeated East English Village 15-0 in three innings Monday at Renaissance High School, while Central beat Southeastern 19-0 in three innings in a Division 2 semifinal at East English Village Prep Academy before rain halted play.

The softball semifinals resume Tuesday (May 13) at 4 p.m. at Renaissance with the host Lady Phoenix leading 2-1 over Denby with no outs and a runnner on second base in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the Division 2 semifinal at East English Village, play resumes Tuesday (May 13) at 4 p.m. with Cody leading CMA 8-7 with no outs in the top of the third inning.

The Cody-CMA winner will play Central for the Division 2 softball title at 1 p.m. and the Renaissance-Denby winner will play Cass Tech at 3 p.m. in Friday’s (May 16) Division 1 finale of the PSL championship doubleheader at University of Detroit Mercy. Admission is $5.
