Thanks to the Urban Forest Stewardship program, nine DPS schools and 350 students attended field trips to Belle Isle April 7-10. A teacher workshop was also held on April 12. The field trips were designed to help build youth and community capacity to manage and steward the urban forests on Belle Isle. The event was funded by a three-year U.S. Forest Service grant through Michigan Technological University, in partnership with the Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education and the Belle Isle Nature Zoo.
