The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation will offer a “College Essay Writing” workshop for high school juniors on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in Room 92 of Manoogian Hall on the campus of Wayne State University.
College admission officers, professional writers and other experts will offer advice about the elements of a successful college essay. The event is free and open to all Michigan high school juniors but seating is limited.

“A strong essay can make all the difference in the college admissions process and for students who are seeking scholarship support,” said Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation President Kim Trent. “Our workshop will help students write a memorable and winning college essay.”
College essays have become increasingly important factors in the college admissions process. Essays give admissions decision makers and scholarship committees a closer look at the goals, interests and intellectual curiosity of a potential student or scholarship recipient.
Co-sponsors for the workshop include the Wayne State University Office of Government and Community Affairs, Detroit Public Schools, Michigan State University, Wow Writing Workshop LLC and the Michigan Education Trust.

Founded in 1980 by The Detroit News and Detroit Public Schools, the Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation has distributed more than $2 million in college scholarships to more than 900 Michigan high school seniors. The foundation awards 40 non-renewable $2,000 scholarships annually to Michigan high school seniors who hold close to Mrs. Parks’ ideals while demonstrating academic skills, community involvement and economic need.
