To help recruit high-quality educators at all grade levels, Detroit Public Schools will host a Teacher Career Fair on April 30, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Renaissance High School, 6565 W. Outer Drive.
The teaching positions will build upon the district’s current talent acquisition pool. The Teacher Career Fair is being held in anticipation of retirements and separations, and aims to fill positions for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. There are a limited number of opportunities for immediate placement.
This event is for new applicants only. Teachers already employed by the district do not need to attend.
“As a result of a new employee severance plan offered to some of our DPS teachers, DPS anticipates 400-600 teacher openings for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year,” said Gwendolyn A. de Jongh, Esq., Chief Human Resources and Labor Relations Officer. “DPS is excited and views this as an opportunity to infuse synergy and continue our mission of improving student achievement and attaining academic excellence.”
Among the available teaching positions is arts education, which aligns with a key initiative of the district’s new five-year Strategic Plan—bringing arts and music programs back to all DPS elementary/middle schools.
Applications are being accepted for ALL teaching positions. However, there is a critical need in Art, Special Education and Bilingual instruction.
Candidates interested in filling any teaching position must visit http://detroitk12.org/employment/ and complete an online application for the appropriate job posting in order to be admitted to the Teacher Career Fair. Applicants can also call 313-873-6897 or 313-240-4377 for more details.
