The Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) District XV Festival was held at Spain Elementary-Middle School on Saturday, March 15.
Middle and high school bands and orchestras performed at the festival for adjudication (judging process) and for ratings. All of the groups had to perform state required pieces from the MSBOA basic music list and were also required to sight-read.
The Detroit School of Arts Wind Symphony performed the highest level of symphonic music (AA), sight-read the highest level of symphonic band literature (AA), and was the only high school band in Detroit Public Schools to receive the highest performance rating possible which was an overall Superior Rating (1st Division).
Only bands and orchestras with an overall Superior Rating (1st Division) are able to participate at the MSBOA State Festival.
The Detroit School of Arts Wind Symphony will be representing DPS at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association State Band and Orchestra Festival in late April 2014.
