The Kyodai Brass Quintet visited the students at Keidan Special Education Center on Tuesday, February 4. This visit was part of the Chamber Music Society of Detroit’s Discovery Series.
According to the Chamber Music Society, the Kyodai Brass Quintet is best known for its eclectic programming, exciting performances, extremely diverse repertoire and commitment to educating audiences of all ages about live music and the brass idiom.
The students enjoyed a concert consisting of traditional, classical and jazz music as well as popular music from Serbia. The quintet also played a medley of movie themes written by composer John Williams. The students and staff had fun guessing which theme went with which movie. The musicians also talked with the children about the way their instruments work and the many different sounds you can make with them.
