DPS announces Bookstock BEST Award, a writing contest for all 4th grade students

BEST: Bookstock Extraordinary Student/School/Teacher Award

Bookstock has launched a writing contest for all 4th grade students in Detroit Public Schools and DPS Authorized Charter Schools.

All 4th graders are invited to write a one page essay. This year’s topic for the BEST Award (Bookstock Extraordinary Student/School/Teacher) is: “My Favorite Book…and Why.”

Bookstock is Metro Detroit’s largest used book and media sale. All proceeds benefit literacy and educational projects in Metro Detroit. Dates for this year’s sale are April 27 – May 4 at Livonia’s Laurel Park Place Mall.

For the past 11 years, Bookstock has generated more than $900,000 for literacy and education programs throughout Detroit and Oakland County. All students who submit entries will receive a $5 “Bookstock Bucks” gift certificate that can be used at the sale.

All entries must be postmarked by March 21, 2014 and submitted to:

An entry form and signed media release must be included with each submission. Five finalists will be notified by April 17, 2014. Bookstock will present the awards to the winners and runners-up at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at Laurel Park Place Mall in Livonia.

All 4th grade finalists and DPS teachers/administrators should be present to win.

$1,000 – school
$500 – teacher
$100 and trophy – student

4 runner-ups:
$500 – school
$200 – teacher
$50 and trophy – students
