Today’s (Feb. 13) semifinal games of the Big D girls’ basketball tournament are at Western International High School, where Cody will play Cass Tech at 5:30 p.m. followed by Renaissance against two-time defending Detroit Public School League champion King at 7 p.m.
The winners advance to the PSL girls’ championship game at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at University of Detroit Mercy Calihan Hall.
The Big D boys’ semifinals are Friday at Cass Tech High School, where defending league champion Pershing plays Douglass at 5:30 p.m followed by Cass Tech against Southeastern at 7 p.m. The PSL boys’ championship game is 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at UD Mercy Calihan Hall.
In the Big D boys’ quarterfinals Tuesday, Pershing defeated Osborn 72-63 and Douglass routed Renaissance 62-26 at East English Village Prep, while Cass Tech got past East English Village 80-62 and Southeastern defeated Ford 80-63 at Western International High.
Those results set up a rematch of last year’s semifinals, won by Pershing (50-40 against Douglass) and Cass Tech (61-60 against Southeastern on a tip-in at the buzzer). The same teams met earlier this season with Pershing winning at Douglass in overtime and Southeastern winning at Cass Tech in a thriller.
