Renowned opera vocalist Denyce Graves presents Master Class at DSA and former DPS student to audition for Metropolitan Opera Company

World renowned opera sensation Denyce Graves presented a Master Class at Detroit School of Arts on Friday, November 15. The audience consisted of students from Cass Tech, M.L. King, Cody and DSA high schools; and Earhart Elementary-Middle School.

Four students from the high schools had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform during the Master Class for Graves to critique.

The Metropolitan Opera Company will also hold district auditions at DSA on Saturday, November 16.

David DiChiera, Director, Michigan Opera Theatre; George Shirley Professor of Voice, University of Michigan; and Jennifer Rowley, International Soprano Vocalist will present a workshop during the auditions for DPS students.

The competition has nearly 40 participants registered, and amongst the applicants is Aerial Doucet. Doucet is a former DSA student who is currently studying Opera at Michigan State University. DPS students attending the workshop will have the opportunity to watch Doucet audition.
