Cass Tech sends out coach with fourth consecutive PSL girls’ volleyball crown; All-City team named

Cass Tech swept Renaissance 25-15, 26-24, 25-14 to capture the Lady Technicians’ fourth consecutive Detroit Public School League’s girls’ volleyball championship Oct. 24 at Western International High School.


2013 PSL girls’ volleyball champion Cass Tech

King defeated host Western in the consolation game for third place 25-22, 25-16, 25-15.

Cass Tech’s victory against Coach Louis Mitchell’s Lady Phoenix provided a victorious swan song for Edward Tomlin, in his 19th season as the Lady Technicians’ head coach. Tomlin was recently appointed director of DPS Elementary and Middle School athletics.


PSL East All-City volleyball players

Prior to the championship game, the 2013 PSL All-City team was introduced and received their medals on the court. The honorees include: Cass Tech seniors Aaliya Davidson, Sasha Johnson, Taylor Coleman and sophomore Nicole White; Renaissance senior Tristyn Walton,  junior Arielle Sears, senior Ahraya Pollard and junior Alexis Gaines; King junior Kierra Acuff, senior Tierra Anderson and junior Isis Elcock; Western seniors Lilana Martinez and Thayra Arocho and junior Alexandra Rensendez; East English Village seniors Taniqua Brown and Shawntel Coleman;


PSL West All-City volleyball players

Mumford’s Mejestix Gabert and Georgina Taylor; CMA’s Kennedi Brown and April Smith; Denby’s Raven Harris; Southeastern senior Tyleese Greene; Central senior Shaunta Johnson; Cody junior Ashley Simpson; Ford’s Courtney Hurt;  and DCP-Northwestern sophomore Alexa Armstrong.
