Hartford Memorial Baptist Church Pastor recognized for $56,000 donation supporting performing arts, summer enrichment at Renaissance High School

Renaissance High School staff and students acknowledged Dr. Charles G. Adams, pastor of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, during a surprise recognition ceremony on Wednesday October 9, 2013 as an outstanding community partner for his contribution of more than $56,000 over the past four years.

The donation has helped to fund the school’s performing arts program, such as costumes, choreography and travel expenses for dance performances in Los Angeles, Toronto, Washington, D.C., and Miami; summer enrichment activities, including foreign language courses, field trips and core curriculum offerings; and advanced placement chemistry curriculum supplies.

The surprise presentation included students who took part in the summer enrichment program, a Student Senate representative and students from the Performing Arts and Science departments. Emergency Manager Jack Martin also attended the event.

Performances were provided by the Men’s Glee Club, Renaissance Quartette and Renaissance Dance. Students from the advanced placement chemistry program showcased their chemistry equipment to Dr. Adams and members of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church.

Dr. Adams, a graduate of Cass Technological High School, said that it is a sheer delight to aid in the education of students.

“With today in our hands, we have the opportunity to help—especially our upcoming generation,” he said.

During the presentation, Renaissance High School Principal Anita Williams said with any partnership it takes two.

“Renaissance High School will continue to be a strong partner with the church by providing student volunteer services to assist with future Hartford Memorial programs,” she said. “It takes a village to raise a child, and we can’t thank Dr. Adams enough for his donation to our school.”
