ARISE Detroit! and Community Partners help prep DPS buildings and classrooms for new school year

Partners included Chrysler Corp., Meijer, PNC Bank, Wayne State University, Hot Sams, Detroit Parent Network, W3R Consulting, City Year Detroit and others

As part of the 7th Annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day on August 3, 2013, ARISE Detroit! partnered a dozen Detroit Public Schools’ sites with local businesses and community organizations to beautify school grounds, clean and paint the interior of school buildings, and create safe routes to schools. This partnership was created to help prepare the school buildings for the first day of teaching and learning across the district on September 3, and add to a positive Back-to-School message focused on school pride.

Participating schools included:  
1. Blackwell Institute, adoped by PNC Bank
2. Burton International Academy, adopted by Wayne State University
3. Carleton Elementary School, adopted by Hot Sams
4. Chrysler Elementary, adopted by Chrysler Corporation
5. Fisher Magnet Upper Academy, adopted by Detroit Parent Network
6. Holmes, A.L., adopted by Valassis Communications, Inc. (*project to take place in mid-August)
7. King High School, adopted by W3R Consulting
8. Pasteur Elementary School, adopted by Meijer and City Year Detroit
9. Priest Elementary Middle School, adopted by PNC Bank
10. Spain Elementary School, adopted by Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit Class XXXIV
11. Thirkell Elementary School, adopted by Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity
12. Western International High School, adopted by Alternatives for Girls
