Paul Robeson-Malcolm X Academy is “Putting art back into Detroit Public Schools”

Paul Robeson-Malcolm X Academy Principal Dr. Jeffrey Robinson submitted this awesome video that shows how his school is “Putting art back into Detroit Public Schools.” The video includes thoughts from the school’s educators, students and the Optimist Club on how art enriches the learning experience and better prepares children to be productive, engaged members of society.

Detroit Public Schools has made it a priority to make more art and music enrichment opportunities available across the district, as stated in the five-year Strategic Plan titled “Neighborhood-Centered, Quality Schools.” A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was released on June 24 using the District’s Strategic Sourcing process, with responses due July 23. The strategic plan calls for an art/music enrichment program for every elementary school student, partnering with individuals and agencies with a proven track record in Detroit.
