WSU to host used instrument donation program to benefit DPS students June 25-26

The Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts Alumni Association, in conjunction with Detroit Public Schools, is planning to conduct a used instrument donation program with Wayne State University alumni, staff and students.

The drive will be called Playing It Forward and seeks to collectgently used instruments that are in working condition. The CFPCA Board aims to make the donation to DPS in order for the instruments to be used during the 2013-2014 school year.

Willie McAllister, Jr., Director of the Office of Fine Arts Education, fully supports the donation drive.

Detroit Public Schools is seeking instruments for elementary, middle and high school students. Brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments are requested from Mr. McAllister. No pianos, please.

The instruments will be collected at two sites on two separate days:  

Tuesday, June 25, 2013; 11am-6:30pm
WSU Oakland Center

Wednesday, June 26, 2013; 12-4:30pm
WSU Main Campus-Welcome Center
42 W. Warren
Detroit, MI 48201

If you or someone you know has gently used instruments that can be donated, visit one of the drop-off sites on the dates listed above. Tentative plans have also been made to repair donated instruments.
