Third annual Proud Strong Learners of the Year Awards set for Wednesday

As a salute to the Detroit Public School League’s wealth of outstanding talent, the DPS Office of Athletics will present the third annual PSL Proud Strong Learners of the Year Awards, sponsored by Detroit area McDonald’s, Wednesday from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the Marcus Garvey Academy Harambee Center, 2301 Van Dyke, near Kercheval, in Detroit.

Proud Strong Learners poster 2013 001This recognition program will honor 47 of the PSL’s top boys’ and girls’ athletic performers, each chosen 2012-13 Proud Strong Learners of the Week as nominated by their coaches.

The weekly honorees were cited for their achievements during the fall, winter and spring sports seasons. The program will culminate with one boy and one girl honoree being ceremoniously named this year’s Proud Strong Learners of the Year.

Last year’s top recipients were King High running back Dennis Norfleet, a freshman starting kick returner this past fall for the University of Michigan, and Pershing High basketball player Caprice Dennis, a University of Miami freshman guard.

The honorees, parents, coaches and school supporters are invited to this media recognition event.
