Mason students and community organizations rededicate the Farwell Field Community Garden

On Saturday, May 4, several community organizations and block clubs rededicated the Farwell Field Community Garden located on the campus of Mason Elementary-Middle School.

Over 35 students participated in the rededication ceremony. Participating neighborhood organizations included:

  • Binder Street Block Club O&R
  • Yonka-Norwood Block Club
  • Fenelon-Conley-Keystone Block Club

New rain barrels, a garden fence and gutters were installed. Vegetables and flowers were also planted as well as beautification to the garden grounds.

On Monday, May 13, a group of Mason students who are interested in gardening visited the Community Garden Center for observation with science teacher Ms. Marjorie Jenkins. The Community Garden Center provided volunteers to train students on gardening. Students who were selected to go to the Community Garden Center are helping to maintain the Farwell Field Community Garden. Once the vegetables begin to grow at the garden, students and staff members will be able to take them home.
