Teachers and staff at Palmer Park Preparatory Academy have recently rolled out a school-wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) program.
On Friday, April 19, students attended a PBIS rally. At the rally, students were greeted by a guest MC, and energized by the P3A cheerleaders. An overview of the PBIS program was presented by the PBIS chairperson, Ms. Gardner-Street, followed by student-organized entertainment. Principal Bessie Harris outlined the incentive program to tell students how they can acquire “Harris Bucks.” Students who earned “Harris Bucks” during the rally were escorted to the school’s “Lion’s Den” to shop.
The underlying theme of PBIS is teaching behavioral expectations in the same manner as any core curriculum subject.
