Bookstock event honors teachers who make reading special for students

IMG-20130423-00067Detroit Public Schools fourth-grade students took part in this year’s Bookstock Used Book & Media Sale April 21 – 28, 2013 at Laurel Park Place in Livonia.

Fourth-graders from DPS’ Centrally Supported Schools and DPS Authorized Charter Schools submitted entries for a writing contest titled, “My Teacher Makes Reading Special for Me…” hosted by Bookstock. The students were required to submit a handwritten essay, poem or letter to a teacher who makes reading special for them. The deadline to submit was March 29.

Livonia-20130423-00064Awards were presented on Tuesday, April 23 at Laurel Park Place Mall in Livonia during the Bookstock Used Book and Media Sale. All writing contest participants received a $5 “Bookstock Bucks” gift certificate that could be used at the sale.

Rochelle Riley, Detroit Free Press Columnist, and Neal Rubin, Detroit News Columnist served as honorary co-chairs of this year’s event.
