King repeated as queens and Pershing returned to the throne Friday night in the Detroit Public School League’s boys and girls varsity basketball championships at University of Detroit Mercy Calihan Hall.
A crowd estimated at 5,000 witnessed the championship doubleheader finale to the Big D Tournament.
Between games, King’s Antania Hayes, a 6-0 senior guard headed to DePaul University, and Pershing’s Kahlil Felder, a 5-9 senior guard bound for Oakland University, were announced as this year’s Miss PSL and Mr. PSL, an honor accorded to the top girl and boy player as voted by the league’s head coaches.
