The Detroit Public School League will clear the way for Friday’s conclusion to the Big D basketball tournament with the girls’ semifinals today at Western International High and the boys’ semifinals Tuesday at Cass Tech High.
Today’s (Feb. 11) girls’ Final Four matches Pershing (10-3) against Cass Tech (15-0) at 5:30 p.m. followed by Renaissance (12-4) against defending PSL champion and No. 1 state-ranked King (15-0) at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s (Feb. 12) boys’ Final Four pits Southeastern (14-3) against Cass Tech (15-1) at 5:30 p.m., and Douglass (11-5) against unbeaten and No. 1 state-ranked Pershing (17-0) at 7 p.m.
The winners advance to the Big D finals Friday (Feb. 15) at the University of Detroit Mercy’s Calihan Hall. The PSL girls’ championship game is set for 5 p.m. followed by the PSL boys’ title game at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the finals is $10.
In boys’ quarterfinal action Friday at East English Village Prep, Southeastern defeated Cody 62-44 and Cass Tech whipped Renaissance 77-51. In the quarterfinals at Western International, Douglass ousted defending PSL champion King 56-55 and Pershing stayed unbeaten with a 70-50 victory against Central.
