DPS kicks off African American World History Pacesetters Contest!

Detroit Public Schools has kicked off the African American World History Pacesetters Contest Friday, February 1, a district wide reading contest for all grades.

The contest runs from Feb.  1-March 15.

One top prize will be awarded to the top reader in each of the 4 categories below:

Grades 1-3: Scholastic book pack of 25 books

Other great prizes will be awarded for Grades 4-6, Grades 7-8 and Grades 9-12!

Purpose

This activity is to increase and assess students’ knowledge of the contributions made by African American pacesetters through the reading of biographies, autobiographies and African American Literature.

The outcome will be students’ increased knowledge of African American contributions to the world and improved reading comprehension of informational text and narrative text.
