Students at Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School received a big surprise during a special music assembly on Wednesday, January 23, to help expand their music program, courtesy of Fidelity Investments’® Detroit Investor Center and the company’s ongoing efforts to support arts education in public schools. Following a performance by the school band and orchestra, a group from Fidelity® surprised the music students by unveiling a donation of 11 brand new instruments and additional equipment.
The new instruments include:
- 5 pairs of marching cymbals
- 3 flutes
- 1 xylophone
- 2 trombones
The donation, collectively valued at approximately $20,000, is being made as part of Fidelity’s ongoing efforts to support public school music programs, and encourage the musical interests and talents of local students. The donation of instruments is being facilitated by The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.
Randy Heinz, Vice President and Branch Manager of Fidelity Investments’ Detroit Investor Center, presented the gift to students of the King High School band, Dr. Deborah Jenkins, Principal, and Victoria Miller, Music Teacher/Band Director.
