Breithaupt Career and Technical Center welcomed more than 150 students/parents to its recent College Night, where 14 colleges were represented.
Wayne State University convened the evening with a financial aid presentation. Parents were informed on topics pertaining to college admissions, financial aid, loans, pell grants, and scholarships, and the documents needed to complete these forms. There were sample FAFSA forms available so parents could follow along with the presentation, as well as familiarize themselves with the process. This presentation was very informative and the parents/students were able to ask as many questions as necessary, said Director Charlene Mallory.
The evening also included raffles and cuisine samples for the participants to enjoy, including beef or chicken chili, and a pasta dish made with beef, chicken or shrimp. Dessert samples included peach cobbler and banana pudding.
“A great time was had by all, and the college representatives will be on standby for the next fair in 2013,” said Mallory. “It is so important to provide collegiate exposure to our students within our District. Breithaupt’s mission this year is to “Embrace the Vision,” equipping students with academic and employability skills to develop college- and career-ready individuals to succeed in business and industry and post-secondary education.”
