Detroit International Academy hosts 4th Annual Hat Strut for Breast Cancer Awareness

The Detroit International Academy for Young Women (DIA), the first all-girls public high school in the state of Michigan, hosted its 4th Annual “Hat Strut for Breast Cancer Awareness” runway show on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the school’s auditorium.

To model during the event, participants were asked for a donation of $1 or more to showcase their most fashionable hat in honor of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Last year’s Hat Strut raised more than $1,700 to go toward breast cancer research.

The goal behind the event is to not only make breast cancer awareness an educational forum for students, but also to put on display the urgency in making the community aware of the need for early detection, self-examination, and annual mammograms.
