Cass Tech rules the pool in PSL girls’ swimming championship meet

Cass Tech won nine of 11 events to easily capture its 10th consecutive Detroit Public School League girls’ swimming championship Monday at Western International High School.

In totaling 182 points, Coach Eugene Collins’ Lady Technicians swept the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays and were led by double winners Zuri Dean, who took first in the 200 individual medley (2:38.76) and the 100 butterfly (1:15.60),  and Ashley Holmes, who won the 50 freestyle (27.63) and 100 breaststroke (1:24.01).

The Lady Technicians’ other winners were Heidi Deltorre in the 100 freestyle (1:04.38) and Taylor Brown in the 100 backstroke (1:16.45).

King finished in second place with 95 points and got firsts from Erin Peoples in the 200 freestyle (2:22.99) and Jameelah Robinson in the 500 freestyle (6:45.87).

Western placed third with 67 points followed by Renaissance fourth with 63, Mumford fifth with 30 and DIA sixth with 24. Cody and Northwestern did not score.
