The field is set for the Detroit Public School League football semifinals Friday (Oct. 12) at Northwestern High School.
East English Village, in the school’s inaugural season, will face Cody in the first game at 5 p.m.
In the second game, Cass Tech and King, two of the PSL’s fiercest opponents, will renew their rivalry at 7 p.m. The winners advance to the PSL Championship Game Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Ford Field.
Tickets for the semifinals are $5 and can be purchased at the gate. Students must have a DPS picture ID or be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years or older.
King clinched the fourth and final playoff spot by virtue of its 61-26 victory against Denby. With the win King overcame a forfeited victory against Osborn to take second place in the PSL East behind East English Village. Cass Tech won the PSL West, earlier dealing second-place Cody its only league defeat.http://detroitk12.org/showcase/sports/football/
In addition to Friday’s semifinals, a full slate of crossover games were played Thursday. The results: Douglass 34, Ford 20; Southeastern 7, Western 6; Northwestern 21, Pershing 6; Central 8, Renaissance 6; and Mumford 22, Osborn 0. Denby plays at Allendale on Friday at 4 p.m.
