Detroit Public Schools Foundation Launches New Alumni Website, Welcoming Alums from Across the Nation to Virtually “Come Home to DPS” during Homecoming Season

Michigan Chronicle Coverage of NEW DPS Alumni Website

The Detroit Public Schools Foundation has launched a new website, www.dpsalumni.org, as part of the Alumni Giving and Development Program, enabling DPS alumni from across the nation to interact with former classmates via live chat posts, share photos and videos on a district-wide timeline, and reconnect with former teachers and staff members on individual pages for all DPS schools.

Never before in the district’s history has a website been dedicated solely to alumni.

The goal behind the website launch is to invite the district’s alumni to virtually “Come Home to DPS” to reconnect with fellow alumni and to share their DPS stories online to inspire current and future students to excel.

“We’re looking for alumni to share their DPS experience and how it has helped to shape their adult lives,” said Dr. Glenda Price, President of the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. “This is the perfect platform to simply reminisce with old friends, to say thank you to the educators and staff members who helped them to reach their career goals, share milestone moments—good and bad—to potentially inspire current students, and support the youth of Detroit who are following in their footsteps.”

The new website features individual school pages for all DPS schools—including the district’s current 100 schools, as well as those schools that have closed or have been converted to charter and EAA (Education Achievement Authority) schools—providing alumni a more personalized feel for connecting with their alma mater.

A special section features DPS alumni videos with prominent DPS alumni urging more graduates to support Detroit Public Schools.

“I’ve witnessed firsthand the pride that shines in the faces of DPS alumni, wherever you meet them, near and far,” said Roy Roberts, Emergency Financial Manager for Detroit Public Schools. “Their successes are a result of their exceptional educations earned right here in the City of Detroit.”
