Calling All DPS Students, Grades 4-8! Here is your chance to design a float for America’s Thanksgiving Parade!

The Skillman Foundation has again partnered with The Parade Company to help Detroit children attending a school or program within DPS, or a Detroit charter school, express his or her imagination and gain a greater interest in the arts by designing a float for America’s Thanksgiving Parade®.

Contest Guidelines:

Use your imagination and step inside of your DREAM neighborhood and draw what you would like to see in it! Some examples are a new SCHOOL, LIBRARY, SPORTS CENTER, ZOO, TOY STORE, DOLLHOUSE, CANDY STORE and more!

To enter, please mail your COLORFUL drawing, along with the application 2012 Skillman-Parade Company Application to:

The first place winner will have their art MAGICALLY transformed into a larger-than-life float for America’s Thanksgiving Parade®. The winner will also ride on the float down the Woodward Avenue Parade route on Thanksgiving morning. The student will also receive a FREE Studio Tour and Pizza Lunch for their participating class. In addition to the First Place winners, five students will be awarded an Honorable Mention for their artistic work.

Contest Rules:

  • Students must attend a school within Detroit Public Schools or the Detroit Charter School system
  • Students must be in grades 4 through 8 to enter
  • Drawings must be colorful and on 8.5” x 11” paper
  • Licensed characters such as Disney® and Nickelodeon® will not be accepted
  • Entries will not be returned
  • All entries must be received by Friday, October 5, 2012 – No Exceptions
  • Drawings will not be returned once submitted
