The event titled, A Salute to Effective Teaching and a Commitment to Serving Our Families, provided DPS leaders a personal opportunity to salute teachers and staff members, while also focusing the entire DPS Family on a positive, successful and customer service-oriented return to school beginning Sept. 4.

Attendees received greetings from Roy Roberts, Emergency Financial Manager, and student James Ivey, who will enter the ninth grade at Davis Aerospace Technical High School.

At the end of his speech, Ivey read the poem, “Don’t Quit,” by John Greenleaf Whittier and received a standing ovation.

“Teachers, please do not stop teaching us. I know we may get on your nerves at times, but we are your future,” Ivey told the crowd. “And be careful, because your words are powerful.”
