Second annual PSL Proud Strong Learners of the Year Awards set for Wednesday

In celebration of the Detroit Public School League’s continuing legacy of great athletes, the DPS Office of Athletics will host the second annual Proud Strong Learners of the Year Awards, sponsored by Detroit area McDonald’s, Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Marcus Garvey Academy Harambee Center, 2301 Van Dyke, near Kercheval, in Detroit.

This recognition program will honor 58 of the PSL’s top boys’ and girls’ athletic performers. All were chosen 2011-12 Proud Strong Learners of the Week as nominated by their coaches.
The weekly honorees comprise student-athletes from the fall, winter and spring sports seasons, and one boy and one girl honoree will ceremoniously be announced as this year’s Proud Strong Learners of the Year.

Last year’s recipients were Renaissance High basketball player Alexis Harris, who now attends Providence,  and Cass Tech’s state’s semifinalist football team.

The honorees, their families and school supporters are invited. Media coverage is welcome.
