Senior Jameel Lockhart fired a nine-hole 38 Wednesday at Palmer Park Golf Course to lead Renaissance High to its fifth consecutive Detroit Public School League boys’ golf championship.
Coach Harry Kennedy’s Phoenix shot a four-man total of 189, that included junior John Elrod with 45, senior Jamil Hague with 46 and junior Jaylon Ganson with 60.
Elrod finished in a three-way tie for second with Mumford’s Devin Hill and King’s Wilborne Kelly, who also shot 45s. Hague tied for fifth with Southeastern’s DeMarcus Tipton. The top 30 finishers were named to the All-City team, led by Lockhart’s runaway seven-stroke victory,
Southeastern placed second in the team scoring with 208 followed by King third with 251, Southwestern fourth with 258, Ford fifth with 289, Denby sixth with 293, Osborn seventh with 295 and Crockett eighth with 297.
“I have a young team in terms of how long they’ve been playing, but they’re very committed,” Kennedy said. “As a team, they’re always prepared and they demonstrated that on the course”
