Six PSL teams vying Friday for MHSAA boys’ basketball district titles

Detroit Public School League champion King and runner-up Pershing are among six PSL boys’ basketball teams that remain alive heading into Friday’s district finals of the Michigan High School Athletic Association state playoffs.

In Class A, King (17-5) will host league arch rival Cass Tech (13-7) at 5 p.m. and Pershing (19-2) will play at University Detroit Jesuit at 5 p.m., with the winners advancing into the regional tournament next Monday (March 12) at Cass Tech. Also in Class A, Denby plays Grosse Pointe North at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Clair Shores Lake Shore High School, with the winner advancing to the regional tournament Monday at Anchor Bay.

In Class B, Crockett (18-4) plays at Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy at 7 p.m. Friday, with the winner advancing to the regional Monday at Pontiac Notre Dame.  Douglass (14-8) was to play Detroit Community, but the MHSAA announced Thursday that game has been cancelled.

In district action Wednesday, King defeated Western 9-47, Cass Tech beat Southeastern 53-43, Pershing beat Mumford 76-55, Denby beat Grosse Pointe South 5-43, Renaissance lost to U-D Jesuit 63-53, Douglass beat University Prep 78-49 and Crockett beat Kettering.
