Students from Ben Carson High School for Science and Medicine participate in “Future DOcs” Saturday Series in partnership with MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine

Ben Carson High School is one of 19 DPS application schools now enrolling students. The application period runs through March 15. Just two weeks left to enroll.

Ben Carson High School students are participating in a series of presentations on Nutrition, Prevention, Personal Health and Hygiene. The presentations are part of a 12-week program titled “Future DOcs Saturday Series” at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine-Detroit Center. The series began February 4, 2012 and will end May 5, 2012. During the February 4th kick-off event, students received scrubs, learned about osteopathic medicine, were assigned to physician mentors, and heard from a physician speaker on the topic of “Why I became a D.O.ctor.”

Thirty students selected to participate in the program will explore careers in health care, study preventative medicine and other related topics, participate in a health fair, obtain CPR certification and engage in a community service project with Habitat for Humanity.

Note: Ben Carson High School for Science and Medicine is now enrolling students for fall 2012. There are 125 slots for 9th grade and a limited number of 10th grade slots.
