PSL champion King to face Catholic Central in Operation Friendship boys’ basketball Thursday at Cass Tech

King High (15-4) will represent the Detroit Public School League against Detroit Catholic Central (13-6) in Thursday’s Operation Friendship boys’ basketball game at Cass Technical High School.

Tipoff for the city championship is 7 p.m. following the 5 p.m. consolation game between PSL runnerup Pershing (18-1) against Catholic League runnerup Warren De La Salle (16-3). Admission is $5.

In last week’s Operation Friendship girls’ games, the Catholic League got the best of the PSL as host Dearborn Divine Child defeated King 48-42 for the city championship and Farmington Hills Mercy beat Pershing 52-45 in the consolation game.

PSL girls’ teams collectively got back into action this week with the start of the state tournament. In Class A district games Monday, host King advanced past Central 66-8; Southeastern beat Finney 58-5; host Pershing beat Warren Fitzgerald 76-47; and Denby lost to St. Clair Shores Lakeview 54-45. In Class B districts, Osborn beat Kettering 67-9; CMA ousted Highland Park Community 51-45; and Crockett bowed to Harper Woods Chandler Park 75-35. The girls’ tourney resumes Wednesday, Feb. 29, with  the district finals slated for Friday, March 2.

The boys’ district tournaments are next week, March 5, 7 and 9. The pairings:
