Pershing, King advance to Big D girls’ basketball finals

One half of the Detroit Public School League basketball championship doubleheader was set Monday night as King defeated Cass Tech 48-36 and Pershing held on to beat Mumford 80-77 in the semifinals of the Big D girls’ tournament at Western International High School.

The Big D boys’ semifinals Tuesday at Renaissance High School paired Crockett against King and unbeaten Pershing against Southeastern, with the winners advancing to Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. PSL championship game at the University of Detroit Mercy’s Calihan Hall. Pershing and King will square off for the PSL girls’ championship at 5 p.m.

Admission to the finals is $10 and tickets can be purchased in advance at the Calihan Hall box office.
