The semifinals of the Detroit Public School League Big D girls’ basketball tournament are set for Monday, Feb. 13 at Western International High School, featuring a Final Four doubleheader of West top seed Cass Tech against No. 2 East seed King at 5:30 p.m., and East top seed Pershing vs. West No. 2 seed Mumford at 7 p.m.
The girls’ top seeds prevailed in quarterfinal games Wednesday as Pershing defeated Cody 71-37 and Mumford beat Southeastern 54-47 at Renaissance High School, and Cass Tech defeated Osborn 68-51 and King beat Renaissance 71-33 at King High School.
The quarterfinals of the Big D boys’ tournament are Friday, Feb. 10 at Cass Tech High School and King High School. At King High, Cass Tech plays Southeastern at 4 p.m. followed by unbeaten East top seed Pershing against Douglass at 5:30 p.m. At Cass Tech High, Crockett plays Ford at 4 p.m. followed by West top seed and league unbeaten Renaissance against King at 5:30 p.m. The winners advance to the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Renaissance High School.
The Big D girls’ and boys’ championship games for the PSL title are Thursday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the University of Detroit Mercy’s Calihan Hall. Pre-sale tickets will be available at the Calihan Hall box office beginning Monday, Feb. 13. The box office will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday for advance sales and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. the day of the championship games. Tickets may be purchased in cash only.
