From the Free Press: Clippert student’s winning Thanksgiving parade float is ready to roll

When 12-year-old Lesly Nunez pictured her vision of a Thanksgiving Day float, she thought of her childhood and all the colorful items that grew in her father’s garden.

On Monday, the Detroit Public Schools’ Clippert Academy seventh-grade student was named the grand-prize winning artist of the 20th annual Skillman Foundation Float Design Contest.

Leslie Nunez, who was mentored by art teacher Ruth Goldfadden and who won the grand prize, was honored by having her drawing picture transformed into a float.  Leslie and her parents will ride on the float in the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
