As perennial girls’ volleyball contenders and the Detroit Public School League champion and runner-up, respectively, for the second year in a row, Cass Tech and Renaissance are on a collision course heading into the Class A regional semifinals of the Michigan High School Athletic Association state tournament Tuesday night at Warren Cousino High School.

Renaissance plays Livonia Stevenson at 5:30 p.m. followed by Cass Tech against Sterling Heights at 7 p.m., with the winners advancing to Thursday’s 7 p.m. regional championship game.

In winning district titles last week, Coach Ed Tomlin’s Lady Technicians defeated PSL foes Central and King, and Coach Louis Mitchell’s Lady Phoenix beat Warren Fitzgerald and league opponent Pershing.
