Crockett, Douglass, King, Cass Tech keep PSL alive in MHSAA state football playoffs

Cass Tech, Crockett, Douglass and King will represent the Detroit Public School League in the second round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association state football playoffs after each posted opening-round victories.

The field has been whittled to 128 teams statewide – 16 in eight championship divisions – as Cass Tech advanced with a 35-6 rout at Livonia Churchill in Division 1; King romped 46-7 at Grosse Pointe South in Division 2; Crockett ousted Birmingham Country Day 13-12 in Division 4; and Douglass advanced with a 36-18 victory against PSL foe Southwestern in Division 4.

In other playoff openers involving PSL teams, Ford (7-3) lost 49-19 to visiting Farmington in Division 2; Pershing (6-4) lost 56-6 at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in Division 3; and Kettering (6-4) lost 48-6 at Grosse Ile in Division 4.

Second-round games for PSL contenders this weekend will feature Cass Tech (7-3) hosting Dearborn Fordson (6-4) Saturday at 1 p.m.; King (7-3) visiting Allen Park (8-2) Friday at 7 p.m.; Crockett (9-1) hosting Harper Woods Chandler Park (8-2) Friday at 7 p.m. at Renaissance High School; and Douglass (9-1) hosting Grosse Ile (8-2) Friday at 7 p.m. at Northwestern High School.
