King vs. Crockett at Osborn in Friday’s 7 p.m. PSL Game of the Week
This week’s scheduled Detroit Public School League football opener between Osborn (0-1 overall) and visiting Finney (1-0 overall) has been changed to Thursday at 4 p.m. at Osborn High School.
The game was originally set for 5 p.m. Friday as part of a PSL doubleheader, but was changed to accommodate funeral services for Allantae Powell, the 18-year-old senior starting running back and linebacker for Osborn who was shot and killed last Wednesday on Detroit’s west side.
In the PSL Game of the Week, Friday’s 7 p.m. league opener between King (0-1 overall) and host Crockett (1-0 overall) will be played as scheduled at Osborn High’s field. Crockett was a 25-20 winner on the road last week against Toledo Central Catholic, while King fell 28-21 to Birmingham Brother Rice in the Big Day Prep Showdown finale at Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium.
Finney’s players will wear a black stripe on their helmets Thursday in tribute to Osborn’s fallen player. Funeral services for Powell will be Friday at 11 a.m. at New Foundation Christian Center, 8145 Fenkell, in Detroit.
In other league openers Friday (all 3 p.m. starts): Cass (0-1) visits Central (0-1); Southeastern (0-1) visits Cody (0-1) at Northwestern High’s field; Mumford (0-1) visits Renaissance (0-1); Douglass (1-0) visits Pershing (1-0); Southwestern (1-0) visits Denby (0-1); Western (0-1) visits Ford (0-1); and Northwestern (0-1) visits Kettering (0-1).
