DPS-authorized charters to hold community gatherings to tout school revitalization

The newly-selected operators for Detroit Public Schools’ five Renaissance charter schools will hold community gatherings at the schools, beginning today, Wednesday, with a Town Hall Meeting and barbecue at GEE Edmondson.

6 p.m. Wednesday, July 13

GEE Edmondson, 1300 W. Canfield, Detroit


Parents and community members are invited to meet the new principal, see improvements to the school and learn how GEE Edmondson is re-energizing education at the school.


Wednesday, July 20 at 6 p.m. — GEE White, 5161 Charles Street, will hold a Town Hall Meeting and barbecue
Saturday, August 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. — EMAN Hamilton will hold a meet and greet.

About Renaissance 2012

Following an extremely rigorous bidding and community vetting process, conducted in partnership with the National Association of Charter School Authorizers, DPS announced the selection of three charter operators with proven records of raising student achievement to run five new charter schools beginning in fall 2011 under the district Renaissance 2012 plan.
