High school baseball will be the attraction and DPS pride will be the theme Thursday for Detroit Public School League “School Spirit Night” at Comerica Park, where three-time defending champion Western International will play Renaissance for the PSL boys’ baseball title.

Students of all ages, alumni, faculty and all fans are encouraged to show their DPS support while watching PSL baseball at its finest. The event kicks off with the consolation game between Cass Tech and King at 5 p.m. followed by the 7 p.m. championship game. Admission is just $5.

In advancing to the championship game, Western took just three innings to rout Cass Tech 17-2 in Tuesday’s semifinal game at Northwestern High, while Renaissance outslugged King 11-9 in the other semifinal at Northwestern, a rain-shortened and hotly-contested five-inning affair.

The selected members of this year’s PSL All-City boys’ baseball and girls’ softball teams will be introduced and receive medals in between Thursday’s consolation and championship games.

Come out to “School Spirit Night” at Comerica Park and show your DPS pride and support for the PSL, the league of Proud Strong Learners.

Also, plan to watch the PSL girls’ softball championship game between six-time defending champion Renaissance and Cass Tech at 5 p.m. Friday at the University of Detroit Mercy. Mumford plays Western in the 3 p.m. consolation game. Admission is just $3.
