Southeastern, Cody featured today in Class A regional; Osborn, Douglass alive in Class B; Renaissance, Pershing girls in state quarterfinals Tuesday

Southeastern and Cody, the Detroit Public School League’s boys’ basketball champion and runner-up, will try to keep alive their hopes for a state championship today (March 14) in a Class A regional doubleheader at Cass Tech High School.
At 5 p.m., Cody (19-3) plays University of Detroit-Jesuit and, at 7 p.m., Southeastern (19-3) plays Livonia Stevenson. The winners advance to the regional finals Wednesday (March 16) at 6 p.m. at Cass Tech High.
The PSL also is represented by Douglass (18-4) and Osborn (12-11) in Class B regional play today. At New Boston Huron High School, Douglass will play Detroit Community at 5:30 p.m. At Imlay City High School, Osborn will play Detroit Country Day at 7:30 p.m.
If Douglass wins, the Hurricanes will meet the winner of today’s 7:30 p.m. game between New Boston Huron and Dearborn Divine Child at 7 p.m. Wednesday (March 16). If Osborn wins, the Knights would face the winner of today’s 6 p.m. game between Marysville and Notre Dame Prep at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Renaissance and Pershing, the PSL’s girls’ basketball champion and runner-up, are both one victory away from reaching the state Class A semifinals for the second year in a row.
The Lady Phoenix and Doughgirls won regional titles last week and return to action Tuesday (March 15) in the state Class A quarterfinals at the University of Detroit Mercy. At 5 p.m., Pershing (22-1) faces Inskter (22-1) before Renaissance (20-3) collides against Warren Regina at 7 p.m.
In Class B boys’ district championship games Friday, Douglass defeated River Rouge 68-39 and Osborn beat Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy 63-52. In Class A boys’ district title games featuring all PSL teams, Southeastern defeated King 77-65 at Cass Tech High and Cody defeated host Pershing 68-66.
