Southeastern and Cody finished the regular season as the Detroit Public School League’s top two boys’ basketball teams and both were aptly rewarded by landing two players each on the All-PSL first team, as voted by the league coaches.
The champion Jungaleers’ Brandan Kearney and Percy Gibson and the runner-up Comets’ Zedric Sadler and Javontay Baynes are joined on the five-player top squad by Crockett’s Lloyd Neely.
The All-PSL girls’ first team was evenly spread as Asia Boyd from champion Renaissance and Caprice Dennis from runner-up Pershing made the first team along with King’s Chanise Baldwin, Mumford’s Raven Bankston and Cody’s Creiona Posey.
The All-PSL boys’ second-team consists of Douglass’ Dennis Hogan, King’s Dennis Norfleet, Ford’s Warren Jackson, Mumford’s Terry Starks and Cass Tech’s Kris Davis. Making the All-PSL boys’ third team were Southwestern’s James Chappell, King’s Malik Albert, Denby’s Cedric Little, Renaissance’s Clark Bishop and Southwestern’s C.J. Sumner.
The All-PSL girls’ second team is comprised of Cass Tech’s Branndais Agee, Pershing’s Mar’Lisa Braxton, Renaissance’s Alexis Harris, Westside’s Ciara Ali and Central’s Charity Cole. The All-PSL girls’ third-team is Denby’s Sasha Phiffer, Northwestern’s Karena Otto, DIA’s BreAnnia Roberts, Western’s Danielle Williams and King’s Bria’unna Buckner.
Kearney and Boyd, who were named Mr. PSL and Ms. PSL, respectively, at the “Big D” PSL tournament finals, also led the balloting among head coaches of the league’s 22 teams. The honorees are listed below in the order which they placed.
