Southeastern faces Warren De La Salle Thursday at Cass Tech for Operation Friendship boys’ basketball city title; Renaissance wins girls’ championship

Newly-crowned champion Southeastern High will represent the Detroit Public School League in Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. Operation Friendship boys’ basketball city championship game against Catholic High School League champion Warren De La Salle at Cass Tech High School.

Cody High, which lost to Southeastern 52-50 in the Big D tournament title game Feb. 18, will play U-D Jesuit in the 5 p.m. consolation game. Admission is $5.

In the girls’ Operation Friendship game last Friday at Livonia Ladywood High School, Renaissance High beat Farmington Hills Mercy 37-29 to end a three-year winning streak by the CHSL. Birmingham Marian had won the previous three girls’ city championships, the last two against Renaissance. Pershing High made it a clean PSL sweep, winning the girls’ consolation game 51-35 against host Livonia Ladywood.
