PSL ‘Big D’ basketball semifinals set: (Girls) Renaissance vs. Mumford, 5 p.m., Pershing vs. King, 7:30 p.m., Monday; (Boys) Cody vs. Ford, 5 p.m., Southeastern vs. King, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday

The field is set for a thrilling semifinal of the Detroit Public School League “Big D” boys’ and girls’ basketball championship tournaments, with the girls taking the court Monday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and the boys hitting the floor Tuesday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., both doubleheaders at Cass Tech High School.
The girls’ tournament has held true to form based on their regular-season order of finish. The top two seeds in each division have advanced to the semifinals.
West-leader Renaissance, the two-time defending PSL girls’ champions and unbeaten in league play, faces No. 2-seed Mumford in the first semifinal game, while East-leader Pershing, which defeated Renaissance in an early-season nonleague contest, remains the PSL’s only unbeaten team overall and is matched in the second semifinal against No.2-seed King.
Monday’s winners will play for the PSL girls’ championship Thursday (Feb. 17) at 7:30 p.m. at Renaissance High School after the third-place consolation game at 5 p.m. Admission is $10.
Tuesday’s “Big D” boys’ semifinals features West top-seed, league unbeaten Cody against Ford at 5 p.m., and East top-seed, league unbeaten Southeastern against King at 7:30 p.m.
King, the No. 3 seed in the East, and Ford, the No. 4 seed in the West, both defeated No. 2 seeds in Friday’s quarterfinals to reach the boys’ final four. In the East, King stunned Douglass 58-50 and Southeastern defeated Crockett 74-48, while Ford nipped Mumford 47-45 and Cody beat Cass Tech 68-60 in the West.
Tuesday’s winners will play for the PSL boys’ championship Friday (Feb. 18) at 7:30 p.m. at Cass Tech High School, The third-place consolation game is at 5 p.m. Admission is $10.
